Rachel James
From Stitch to Sky: Rachel’s Journey Through Textiles and Landscapes
Since childhood Rachel has been drawn to making. With no formal art training she has explored a wide range of textile and fibre-based arts. From delicate embroidery to paper manipulation, from eco-dyeing natural fabrics to crafting sculptural baskets—if it involves stitch, or fibre, Rachel has likely experimented with it. Her work has also evolved into large-scale installations .These pieces speak not only of her technical skill but also of an intuitive relationship with materials and process.
More recently, Rachel has found herself stepping outside—quite literally. Sketchbook in hand, she likes to capture the quiet, shifting beauty of the natural world around her, later transforming these studies into abstract oil paintings.
Rachel now weaves all her disciplines together. Her work is a reminder that art is not defined by category or convention. It’s about curiosity, connection, and a willingness to follow the thread—wherever it may lead.
