Rachel Davies
With background training as a fashion and textile designer, followed by a career in the textile industry and later 15 years as an art and design lecturer I am now a self-employed textile artist and tutor. I am driven by an absolute love of painting and textiles. I enjoy creating detailed decorative textile outcomes that utilise illustration, free machine embroidery and hand stitch. I often include 3D elements. I enjoy researching themes and produce sketchbooks, as my pieces tell stories and send messages to the viewer.
A great deal of my work is created in response to our global textile crisis, and I aim to use recycled fabrics and preloved fashions that convey information about sustainability. I use my conceptual garment creations to illustrate talks. I teach visible mending and textile workshops.
